Penang Malaysia February

Our beautiful train journey from Kuala Lumpur!

Ferry time across to Penang

                                      Popular with the locals too!!!

        A taste of Penang

Fish left out to dry on the pavement!!!

Penang is made up of lots of these shop houses where the owners stay above.
Some are in a very sorry state!

Trishaw anyone.  These seemed to way out-number the amount of people!

Below is the Red Garden Food Paradise.  It is a giant food market serving everything from noodles to pizza so there will be something for everyone.  It also has a licensed bar with waitresses service.  It has football on the big screen and also kicks into action later on in the evening with live music and karaoke.  Delicious food with a great atmosphere but get there early as it is super busy.

Found a lovely cafe called Mugshot Cafe. Pastries & smoothies for breakfast! & then time for Joshua's mugshot pics!

We took a trip up Penang Hill. Took just under an hour on the bus from the city centre & then up to the top on the farnicular railway. Originally the Brits used Penang Hill to escape the city grime & mosquitos and enjoyed some fresh air with the added bonus of very nice view! In the early days they were carried up the hill by servants which took up to 3 hours!!! It's pretty steep!!! Thankfully now the train takes less than 10 minutes to get you to the top! Although being carried up the hill like Royalty sounds pretty cool!  There are spectacular panoramic views out over the city and afar as well as a temple, a mosque, cafes, restaurant, ice cream vendors, a small play park and a multi use area which had a peddastool for those completing a cycle race that day and some musicians entertaining us with some authentic music.

              Going up!

Beautiful Views from the top of the hill!

I spy with my little eye!

Proper English afternoon tea is served at the top of the hill! Yummy!

One of the old train carriages from the earlier farnicular railway.

Off to the beach for the afternoon and a very pretty sunset!

Penang was a great little place to visit. You truly do get lost in the many streets with all the little unique shops, cafes, restaurants and art work.  They have some very famous street art here which we had great fun searching for, for about four hours with the obligatory ice cream & milkshake stops to keep both Josh & Gary happy!  They are very different designs & sizes with some tricky to find.  We had help from a couple of locals on occasion and other times we just kept an eye out for a crowd of tourists with their cameras out!! You can find them in the next post as I believe they deserve their own space to show off!!
