Ho Chi Minh City /Saigon Vietnam

The night market outside our hotel.

                          Josh feeling very rich!!

The Reunification Palace
The palace has been bombed twice over the years, the second being so detrimental it was demolished & the whole thing rebuilt.  It is the scene of the symbolic end to the Vietnam war when two tanks stormed the gates.

     The Opera House

           The Very grand Post Office

This gentleman has been translating within the post office for nearly 50 years.  He can speak Viatnamese, French & English.

Pride of place in the post office is a large portrait of Ho Chi Minh

                      Notre-Dame Basilica

The Burning Monk
June 1963 a Viatnamese Buddhist Monk set himself on fire (self-immolation) to protest against the right to a choice in religion.  At that time the South Vietnamese government were pro Catholic and anti Buddhism.  Below is the monument which is a memorial to this day in Vietnams history.

We took a motorcycle tour through Ho Chi Minh City.  It was fascinating, our tour guide was full of information and the girls guided us safely through the busy streets, sites and markets with ease.  I would not like to be driving the bike myself, much happier on the back of a locals bike.  Josh thought it was absolutely brilliant and now wants us to get motorbikes when we get home!

Our local eatery.  Tasty food with great service.

Off we go once more.  Sleeper train once more, off to beautiful Hoi An.

Ho Chi Minh is a very busy city with much history,  we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and found it easy enough to get around on foot although crossing the road was always a bit hazardous!  The advice was just look straight ahead and walk swiftly, they will avoid you!
