La Paz Bolivia

La Paz sits nestled into a huge valley. It is the highest administrative capital in the world at a height of over 3,500mtrs above sea level.  It is a workout to go anywhere as it is so hilly & steep and the altitude doesn't aid the breathing!! They have a system of three cable cars to get you about the city and are in the process of building six more as they have proved very popular with the locals who use it like an underground system would be used.  The view is so much better than the London Underground!!

The highest point of the city!

One of the local buses.

Juggling entertainment at the traffic lights.

La Paz council employ these zebras to help pedestrians & motorists get along in the hectic city centre. They also provide some entertainment at the traffic lights as they jump around happily ushering pedestrians along. One of the rules of being a La Paz zebra is you must be happy all of the time!!!

A walking tour of the town with 'Red Cap Tours' brought us to the witches market which opened our eyes to the use of dead llama foetus to cast spells & bring protection to the family.  (All llama foetus are naturally occurring & in no way are llamas hurt) They had potions for just about anything with one being called 'follow me, follow me' which was a love potion!!

Time to head to Uyuni for some salt flat adventures!!
