What a beautiful little place full of character & old style buildings. It even has a selection of abandoned old cars which you can hop in for a photo although some looked like an awful lot of spiders had made their home there!!!
The trees maybe thought it was Autumn/Winter but no one had mentioned it the sun!!
Such glorious weather!!
It had two piers which had an array of boats docked.
Obviously a popular weekend retreat for the sailors.
Over the drawbridge and out of the old part of the city.
We ventured off on a 10mile hike along the coast to find the remains of Colonias bull ring.
Unfortunately it had only been opened for a couple of years when bull fighting became illegal in Uruguay. Since then it has fallen into disrepair and is now just a ruin on a roundabout.
There's always time for tree climbing for our Josh!
Time to explore Uruguay a bit further. Off on a 3hour coach tour to Uruguays capital, Montivideo for a couple of nights.
Another wander along the coast to find the old town (Ciudad Vieja) of Montivideo. Not quite as sunny as Colonia and a bit breezy!!!!
After a breezy couple of hours walking it was definitely time for some hot chocolate!!! Mmmmmm!!!
We visited the Museum of Money which had an array of counting machines, typewriters, quill writing pens, a bank teller stall & enhanced coins for doing crayon rubbings. It was a great little museum which Josh enjoyed very much. He now wants a typewriter when we get home!
It also had another museum on the same floor which housed some old cowboy artefacts including lots of spurs and whips. It also had a umber of 'mare gourds' which are metal cups with metal straws for drinking the traditional Mate which is a kind of tea. They put herbs & leaves into their cup & continuously fill it up with boiling water from a flask. You see many locals carrying their flask under their arm while drinking from their mate gourd.
Josh making friends with the local pizza guys. Cooked to perfection in their pizza oven, so delicious they would give Italy a run for their money!!
