Alleppey also known as Alappuzha as every Indian city has an English name and an Indian name, is set on the backwaters of South India's beautiful Kerala. It is an escape from the big city with its open waters, houseboat cruises & greenery. We stayed at the beautiful Punnamada Resort which sits right on the banks of the lake. We were superbly looked after during our stay and made to feel right at home. We stayed for 5 nights with a night on one of their luxury houseboats. Our stay came with a nightly cruise up the backwaters, afternoon tea on the lawn & yoga in the morning!
The fishing net came up empty with the exception of some leaves!
A typical Indian houseboat which were a plenty on the lake.
Storm coming in so unfortunately no evening cruise tonight!
Success tonight though, all aboard!
Ship building yard.
Always washing day here!
All aboard for our night on the water.
Beautiful Sun Set & Sun Rise
Back on dry land and off in a Tuk Tuk for a tour of Alleppeys top tourist attractions!
First stop is the Coir Museum where we learned that coconuts are not just for drinking & eating!!
Yep all from coconuts!
The coconuts being hand beaten after being softened in the water.
Spikey door mats being made by a hand/foot loom.
Another beach for the check list. So beautifully clean but the waves were huge!
Up Up & Away we go!!! Well worth the 360 degree views & we made some lovely new friends who all wanted a picture with us!
Our new friends all waving us off to the top.
Our last evening sun set cruise before we leave pretty Alleppey
