Sydney Botanical Gardens

HJust a stones throw from Sydney Opera House is the beautiful Botanical gardens.  The gardens are celebrating their 200th year in 2016!  It is a very large green space just a 5 minute walk from the hustle & bustle of the city business district.

Josh looking out for the fish & eels!!!!

                       Some great rocks for climbing.

The Botanical gardens run along the waterfront so there is a great view of the bridge & the Opera House!

The gardens are used during the week by the locals at lunchtime for a picnic or a lunchtime run or keep fit session.

It's also full of some impressive birds!

There are some great trees for climbing too!!!

We spent a good 2 hours wandering through the gardens & I think we only covered half of it.  It is split into many sections with millions of different species of trees, plants & flowers.  A gardeners paradise!  A great place for a wander or a picnic.  There are always plenty of people watching opportunities or you can sit nearer the water & watch the boats, ferries & sometimes cruise ships pass by.

Sydney Lego Exhibition @ Museum of Sydney

It was a cold & rainy day in Sydney, yes it was, after being promised sunshine for 12+ months you can imagine we were a little disappointed at this!!!!!!

So Josh & I headed up the road to the Museum of Sydney which we had visited previously.  Josh chose this because there was a Lego Exhibition on. When we got there we had to book a 2hr time slot so had a half hour to browse through the museum once more.

These are some of the impressive builds they had on display and a couple of our creations!!! I'm sure it won't be hard to guess which is which! Our time slot started at 2pm & we finally got kicked out about 5.30pm!!!! Oops!!!! Fab afternoon was had by both!!!!

Yes it was this BIG!!!!!

Luna Park

Joshua's house complete with bed, corner sofa, TV, bath & toilet!!!!

Oh and a garden!!

When Josh met Camilla!!!!

So we heard the royals were in town & we're coming to meet the crowds at lunchtime.  We thought it would be rude to not go say Hi! Prince Charles & Camilla would both be attending a walk about in the city centre.  We headed up and waited patiently, as they were fashionably late after a dummy run with the cars & so, so many police motorbikes!! Josh was in his element watching all the commotion.  They finally arrive half hour late, there were flags flying, including ours and the crowd were cheering!!!  As we were nice and early we were at the front.  Prince Charles headed along the crowds on the opposite side of the road & Camilla made her way along our side.  I joked with Josh that he might get to shake her had & he said "no way"! I was right!! She came towards him , shook his hand & said she liked Donald Duck on his t-shirt. You should have heard all the grannies behind him, they were so jelouse!!!!

We're waiting!!!!

The moment!!

Billy Cart Racing

Billy Cart (Go-Cart) racing at Centenial Park Sydney.  This was such a fun day, the billy-carts were fantastic, so much time & effort had gone into making them.  We had a walk around the pits to admire all of the designs.  The teams were all dressed up according to the theme, even the ones not riding that day.  Josh's favourite was Scooby Doo!!! I particularly liked the toaster with riders dressed as slices of toast,  it even had a plug trailing along behind it & they threw slices of toast out to the spectators as they whizzed past!! We found a good spot along the race track so we could watch them tackle the chicane & head off over the ramp!! It was great fun cheering them on & we saw some great crashes, a particular favourite was 'Table for Two', yes an actual dinner table on a bully-cart.  They were doing so well driving along eating their spaghetti until the bump...... The table flew down in front of them but they did manage to grab it but then lost control and came crashing to an end!!! The lady who was actually a bloke dressed up came flying off the cart and was saved I'm sure by his false boobs as he just jumped back up!!!

The winning billy-cart was the one designed like the harbour bridge, it was built to last just like the bridge!!!! They made it down in one piece and were one of the fastest.  Theme, design, creativity & speed were all factors in the judging.  We all thought the 'Table for Two' should have won, it was so creative, they even ate & drank on the way down & the table just tilted at the very end!!!

Red Bull sponsor these 'Billy-Cat' races all over the world so if you see an advert for one near you we would highly recommend you go along, it's a great laugh!!!
